ELECTROPOLISHING
Electro polishing also knowns as electrochemical polishing, anodic polishing, or even denoted as electrolytic polishing is a process of electrochemical finishing. The process of electro polishing involves the removing of a thin layer of material from a metal surface which is usually stainless steel. This process will ultimately bring about a shiny and ultra clean finishing surface. Electro polishing is further most used for polishing and deburring surfaces that are either fragile or parts that have complex geometries. For more precise description of electro polishing, this is the reverse of electroplating which involves adding together a thin coat of positively charged metal ions, whereas the later involves dissolving a thin layer of metal ions. Moreover, in relation to the amount of materials that are removed from the electro polishing process, this is proportional. That is, the run time or the cycle time and the amp-minutes that is passed through the surface needs to be considered.
Hilite, brings the service of electro polishing apart from its most prominent services from chrome plating, nickel plating to barrel plating and many more. Hilite, covers several suburbs in Australia from Melbourne, Dandenong, Bayswater to Thomastown and Narre Warren giving the expertise service to many end consumers as possible.
How Electro Polishing Works
- The metal component serves the positively charged anode in electro polishing. This metal component is then connected to a positive terminal of a power rectifier. And then generally a stainless steel is connected to the negative terminal of the power rectifier which represents the negatively charged cathode.
- A submerging of the anode and cathode takes place in a temperature-controlled bath that consists of electrolyte solution. This electrolyte solution usually consists of a mixture of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid.
- An electrical current is transferred from the anode to the cathode through the electrolyte. This electrical current creates the metal ions based on the surface to oxidize which then dissolves into the electrolyte.
Benefits of undertaking electro polishing
- Brings about decorative appearances
Electro polishing is effective to bring about bright and shiny finishing which are pleasing and uniform in texture without the appearances of fine lines, bringing a completeness to the end product. - Deburring
An effective feature of undertaking electro polishing which fixes all microscopic defects which if not could result in snagging and breaking. - Friction reduction
Electro polishing aids in reducing friction to bring in constant motion which are focused on a particular part of an item which indirectly improves sealing. - Electro polishing is used in fragile parts
The process also works best in fragile items that can be damaged during a tumbling or barrel plating process.
Just as the benefits of undertaking electro polishing defines the importance it brings to different nature of industries and needs the process can be widely used for. Hilite Plating ensures to bring about the most appropriate solution to meet your requirements with the best resources and the most expertise staff.
